Privacy
Crate is run by UM Limited, trading as Shaved Monkeys, a New Zealand company. We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This page is the short version for Crate; the full Shaved Monkeys privacy policy applies to all our products.
What we collect
- Your sign in: the email address on your Shaved Monkeys account (Google sign in), a signed session cookie, and a log line each time you sign in or are turned away. Logs are kept for 30 days.
- Your own music library details: track names, artists, BPM, key, genre, play counts, playlists and cover art, copied from your library at home so you can browse it away from home.
- Your crates and sets, the ratings, tags and notes you add (with a history of each change), and your Crate settings.
- Your music files stay private to you. Crate never shares them: a file is only ever handed to you, or to someone you named, after sign in, through a link that expires within hours.
Why
Only to run Crate for you: to sign you in, to show you what is yours, to keep the service secure and to reply when you contact us. We keep the minimum the service needs.
Where it is kept
On Amazon Web Services, in New Zealand (Auckland) by default, or Australia (Sydney) where a service is not offered in Auckland yet. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. Sign-in is the Shaved Monkeys account; if you choose Google sign-in, Google handles that step.
What we never do
We don't sell your information, we don't share it for advertising, and we don't train AI models on it.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Email ulrich@shavedmonkeys.nz and we'll reply within 20 working days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
